About the Role

Serves as a Strategic Debriefer planning and executing overt HUMINT collection operations in support of Department and Intelligence Community (IC) collection requirements with minimal supervision. The Strategic Debriefer drafts the reporting generated from those operations in accordance with all relevant policy, regulations, and laws. Specific duties and functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan and execute intelligence debriefings of overt HUMINT sources directly responding to assigned collection requirements with minimal oversight.
• Draft high-quality intelligence reports in a timely fashion.
• Provide timely responses to consumer requests for information (RFI), source directed requirements (SDRs), collection management taskers, etc.
• Maintain detailed operational records to assist in source validation processes.
• Recognize foreign intelligence service modus operandi and potential CI issues and report that information.
• Adhere to all applicable U.S. HUMINT collection regulations, policies, laws, and standards.

  • Experience - Senior (15+ years), Mid-level (10 years), Junior (5 years)


  • Individual must have experience in human intelligence (HUMINT) collection and generating raw intelligence reporting. Individual must have demonstrated evidence of excellent, strategic-level debriefing and intelligence report writing skills. Must be able to deal effectively with individuals at all levels often under the pressure of fast breaking, ambiguous situations. Must have strong personal initiative traits and well-developed time management and multitasking skills. The ideal candidate will have: multiple successful tours conducting overt HUMINT collection, ideally on intelligence issues central to the Department’s mission such as advanced science and technology, commercial or military nuclear technology, weapons of mass destruction nonproliferation/counterproliferation, energy security, and cyber security.


  • Education - Position requires the individual to have earned an Associate’s or Technical Degree from an accredited university or college preferably in a field related to geopolitical/ national security studies, science, engineering. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in a field related to geopolitical/ national security studies, science, engineering, English, foreign languages, or social sciences is highly desirable. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements. The candidate must have formal HUMINT collector training from at least one of the following courses (or another equivalent): The Defense Strategic Debriefing Course (DSDC); Advanced Military Source Operations Course (AMSOC); Advanced Source Operations Course (ASOC); Defense Advanced Tradecraft Course (DATC); Joint Military Attaché School (JMAS); Advanced Special Operations Techniques Course (ASOTC); Advanced Human Intelligence Operations Course (AHOC); Advanced CI Collection Course (ACICC); Field Tradecraft Course (FTC); or any other official U.S. Government or Military HUMINT training course providing certification for overt collection equivalent to Military Source Operations Category 3 or higher.
